P&P Chapter 4

The bulk of the questions will be on chapter 4. It seemed in previous RATs, people ignored reading the material in the blue boxes. This material is important and it is highly likely it will be on the test. You should also know figure 4.3 quite well. If I show you that figure and point to a component, you should know what that component does. You do not need to reproduce the figure (for ex., I will ”’not”’ ask what is wrong with the wiring of some variation of that figure)

P&P Section 5.1

You do not need to memorize the chart in figure 5.3. I will not ask about any instruction on this chart unless it is covered elsewhere in the reading. If an instruction is covered in the reading, I will assume you know the details of it — what operands it takes. You do not need to memorize binary opcodes but you should know the format of an instruction.

Macabe 3.2

You do not need to memorize things like tables 3.5, 3.6, 3.7 & 3.12. Terms written in the margin are probably considered important terms by the author and you might want to know the definitions. I consider 3.2.3 fairly important (Equally important is the similar material in P&P ch4. I won’t ask any of the details of examples 3.12-3.15 but it might be very useful to read this as it may help in understanding the iFetch loop better.
